4P1 was established by the 1st Marine Division in 1953. In recent years 4P1 provided fire support (105mm) for DMZ patrols and border defense. 4P1 is located near Camp Greaves. The ROK now occupies 4P1.
4P1 was a rational camp with artillery units serving two weeks every six to support DMZ patrols and guard post in the DMZ. 4P1 had Quonset Huts for living quarters and a dining hall. the shower and latrines were temporary. 4P1 was the last active Fire Base in the U.S. Army. In 1978 barracks were constructed.
